We use various types of dental X-rays in Kennebunk to check your dental health at different intervals. Once a year is sufficient for many patients, but if you suffer from frequent dental issues or for children whose teeth are undergoing rapid change, we may recommend more frequent X-rays to make sure your teeth are in top shape.
Dental Health From the Inside Out
There’s more to a beautiful smile than clean teeth—hidden problems like cavities and bone loss can affect the way you eat and talk. Optimize your mouth’s health from the inside out with dental X-rays in Kennebunk.
At Generations Dentistry, we use dental X-rays to evaluate possible cavities, check the bone level around your teeth, and identify pathology we can’t see with the human eye. These radiographs also allow us to document your dental health over time, and they provide a visual way for you to understand and care for your teeth.
What Dental X-Rays Detect
While routine dental exams catch many potential problems, X-rays let us take a thorough look at the health of your teeth and gums. We can also check if a child’s permanent teeth are coming in well or see whether wisdom teeth need to be removed. Dental X-rays in Kennebunk help us catch and treat minor issues before they become major ones, such as:
-
Cavities
-
Impacted wisdom teeth
-
Cysts
-
Cancer
-
Facial fractures

Why Choose Generations
In addition to traditional X-rays, we also use dental cone beam CBCT scans to develop extensive images of your mouth’s anatomy for precise treatment.

You’re probably most familiar with bitewings, which we take about once a year. These X-rays take an image of your upper and lower teeth and help us check out your teeth, gums, and surrounding anatomy.
Every few years, we may take a full set of X-rays to get more information about your entire mouth, including the bone surrounding your teeth and the roots of your teeth. Similarly, Panorex X-rays show all your mouth’s structures in a single image, which helps us get an overview of your oral health and see any larger existing issues. Depending on your oral health, you may get a Panorex X-ray every 1 to 5 years.
Using a cone beam CT scan (CBCT), we can create a detailed 3D image of your teeth, jaws, joints, nerves, sinuses, and soft tissue. These are specialized scans that we typically use to construct treatment plans for facial fractures, dental implants, surgeries, and more.
Dental X-rays in Kennebunk use a negligible amount of radiation, making them safe for our patients. Additionally, we’ll provide a protective apron for you to wear over the rest of your body, and we’ll only take X-rays when necessary to avoid unnecessary risk.
